Last weekend I was lost. I had the time but nothing which had to be done in the garden. All those weeks of hard work paid off. For a short time I can sit and watch things grow. Just me and a cup of coffee sitting on the deck poking around my planters on the deck while staring at the garden below. Quietness, stillness, beauty, and a sense of accomplishment. Life is good! I quickly covered that problem by going out for 3 more self watering window boxes (for another crop of lettuce, radish, carrots, and spinach). Good thing I have 3 extra bags of dirt left over. Can't let them go to waste!
I created a spreadsheet of all the veggies and when to start seeds, sow directly into the ground, and when to transplant. Today I'm headed out to pick up some fall seeds. I'm also on the lookout for some Easter Egg Radish Seeds which I might have to buy online. (crossing my fingers!)
I've taken lots of pictures of my garden. You'll see how things have grown, problem areas, and garden critters.
If you have a blog full of garden pictures, hints/tips please leave a comment, I'd love to pop over and see what you've been doing!Welcome to my June garden update...
Up on deck first (litterally!) these are my window boxes on the deck railing.
Radish:

One seems to have sprouted higher than the others and I almost pulled it out thinking it was a weed. Little sucker might end up being my first harvest of the season soon!

Lettuce: Here are some leaf lettuces simpson & mixed all planted mid April
Simpson: (not doing as well as the mixed)

Mixed

I planed a second crop last week next to the mint in one of my new self watering window boxes

Carrots

Basil, I pinched the tops and they have been getting bush...I just wish what ever is eating them would stop, could it be the catiplillars? I've been regularly watering the whole deck to blast away the critters, it's gotten better.

Thyme which I loved having and using in Chicken dishes, planted it before I stopped eating meat. Oh well!

Parsley, seriously growing great! I've been watching tiny shoots pop up all the time.

Mint, I'm sad that it's not the mint my father planted in our grandmothers house (house has been sold long ago) but at least this might stick around longer. Any time I transplanted mint from her house it never came back.

Spinach, seems a bit sad huh! I spread out the seedlings and there are a few new seeds sown (I think!). I've never done spinach before so I don't know if I'm overcrowding or if there is room for more. That's ok, I have a few rows down below in the raised bed area. Funny story on that down below.

I planted some Zinnia in hopes that it will make my oldest happy. She loves crysantamums and I don't think they will grow well here. So I thought this would be the closest thing for her.

Squash in a container, actually looks better then the one down below in the raised bed.

Onions red and white, am I crazy to try it this way? I drilled tons of holes on the bottom of this plastic under the bed box. We shall see what happens.

Heirloom tomato, I have 3 plants, 2 in containers 1 in the raised bed along with another generic tomato plant.

Here are the critters living 'la vida loco' on my cages above the tomato plants

While we are looking at critters, here's another one

SNAKE!

Oh wait, it's a stick! One day I was grabbing sticks and saw a zig zag one but then I realized it was a snake. Now all sticks are frightening to me! This one here got me, I actually jumped up because it was two feet away where I was about to step.
Peppers, I'm growing quite a variety I believe I have 5 total.

And here are the ones I started from seed, should have started them earlier! 2 of 3 survived the transplant.

Eggplant, at least I hope it is.

Squash, 3 plants in a 12 x 12 area, too many in too small a space?

Hello carrots! kind of crowded but I'll pull some for a early harvest

Romaine, only 2 of the 3 planted survived but I have 2 more to plant, just wanted to space them out.

Brussel sprouts...my oopsie planting. Notice the lettuce in the background and spinach in the foreground. Forgot I planted seeds there before I added the 4 sprout transplants! Should be ok.

On the side of the house is my heirloom rhubarb. I believe I can call it that because the plant has been around for over 50 years, started in my mother in laws mom's garden.

I have a smaller raised bed against the house, gives partial shade so I might have to figure out what will work better there.
Right now I have cucumbers

Strawberries

Blueberry bush, poor thing needs to be weeded. I'll tend to it this weekend.
What's wrong with my poor squash plant? Looks like the stem has split. I'm going to dig it up so it doesn't hurt the other plant nearby.

Another picture:

We are growing branches, kidding! Just our huge pile due to trees being cut down, storms, and pruning. It would be nice to chip them all but getting a machine down below would be tough.

This is me & my youngest walking down toward the raised bed

I also planted some calla lily bulbs but there's not much to look at, plus my greenbeen bush seeds aren't doing anything yet, I may have planted them too late.

From up on the deck looking down to the 4 x 4 raised bed garden.

Future dreams:
I have a pile of rocks near a larger rock. Wouldn't it be great for daffodils and tulips? What plants would be good here? I'd love some suggestions.
